About

𝗥&𝗗 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳 – 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳 In this instance we have an existing Word document for our small business clients applying for a Research and Development (R&D) Tax Incentive that we need to work differently to how it is currently set up. 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 We are a small accounting firm assisting clients with R&D Tax Incentive applications. Historically, to gather information, we use a Word template (.docm) that allows clients to complete required sections. We prefer Word as it supports Track Changes for collaboration and review. Recently the Government regulator who administers the R&D Tax Incentive program changed the application form and provided a more detailed guide. We have endeavored to adjust our Word document for this additional information, however, we can’t see how to make the document as interactive as we need it to be for our clients and this is where we need your help. 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽 We only need our document to include from Question 31 onwards as we have the client information for Questions 1-30 on file. At this point our document (Bacchus 2025 R&D AusIndusry New Form Template Macro) has some functionality working for one PROJECT, CORE ACTIVITY, AND SUPPORTING ACTIVITY, but: A) we can’t get all functionality to work within the one PROJECT, CORE and SUPPORT ACTIVITY, and; B) we need the client to be able to add multiple of any or all of these and for that same functionality to work. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 We need for the interaction between questions to maintain functionality when multiple PROJECTS, CORE or SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES are added (i.e. when Question x is answered with y, Question z won’t appear). For example, in Question 31, checkboxes have implications across subsequent questions within all three of the following Word document sections: - SECTION: PROJECTS - SECTION: CORE ACTIVITIES - SECTION: SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES When one or more of the checkboxes are selected it impacts what items will be applicable and shown or not shown throughout the document across multiple sections. With an R&D Application there can be: - One or more PROJECT - One or more CORE ACTIVITY There does not need to be a SUPPORTING ACTIVITY, but there can be one or more. For any check box ticked or question answered, we need the existing instructions to flow through the document and we need for our clients to be able to add multiple PROJECTS, CORE ACTIVITIES, AND SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES to the document with those same instructions flowing through for each new item added. We need it to be user friendly for clients and to keep the use of ‘Track Changes’ and ‘Comment Boxes’. Another example is Q99 which says ‘This question will not display if ‘B’ was selected for Q97.’ There are many similar examples throughout each of the Sections. 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 The dynamic sections (PROJECTS, CORE ACTIVITIES, SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES) need to be repeatable by the client within the document and ‘Track Changes’/’Comment Box’ functionality kept. To be clear, just because a particular question has been answered a certain way within one PROJECT, the dynamic template needs to allow it to be answered differently within another PROJECT, and then have the subsequent questions impacted in line with the guidance. 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 - RDTI Registration Application Form Questions – this is the guidance provided by the Government regulator as to how each question should be answered. - Bacchus 2025 R&D AusIndustry New Form Template Original – this is our template that includes the questions and guidance from the document above. - Bacchus 2025 R&D AusIndustry New Form Template Macro – this is our initial attempt to make our template interactive, i.e. it tries to ensure certain questions will/won’t present when other questions have been answered in certain ways.
