Watson Grains Research Centre and L’lara Research station Base Salary $112,026 - $120,771 p.a. (HEO6) + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Faculty of Science is currently seeking a Technical Officer - Cropping Supervisor to be responsible for the cropping operations at L’lara and assist with IA Watson farm operations. This role performs tasks as directed by the Senior Technical Officer (Farm Manager), Northwest Research Stations based in Narrabri and the Manager, Farm Operations based in Camden. The incumbent will primarily support the broadacre cropping at L’Lara and the Institute at Narrabri both for the day-today farm operations and providing farm services to research projects as directed. Your key responsibilities will be to: coordinate the implementation and development of management plans for the farming operations at the Northwest Research Stations work with the Senior Technical Officer, Northwest Research Stations in implementation of the management plans and the Manager, Farm Operations in the effective delivery of administrative services for the Farms operate a range of modern farming equipment, including self-propelled boom spray, header and air seeder in order to manage over 1,500ha of winter and summer crops maintain comprehensive farm records including precision agriculture data in order to meet both University administrative requirements as well as record keeping required for regulatory purposes. assist the other Technical Officers with general farm operations, including cattle work, fencing and equipment & infrastructure maintenance. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Technical Officer - Cropping Supervisor who has: experience in managing the farming and operations of a research centre or like enterprise sound mechanical abilities basic knowledge of agronomy and an interest in related research knowledge of computers and software packages as they relate to farm management knowledge of farming practices as they apply to a research centre or like enterprise and ability to develop and implement farm plans ability to interact with staff on financial and administrative matters willingness to obtain Q Fever Vaccine if deemed necessary for the position.
