Job Description – Specialised Support Worker
Location: North Brisbane & Redcliffe, QLD
Employment Type: Casual / Part-Time / Full-Time (as negotiated)
About the Role
Yirra Care Pty Ltd is looking for dedicated and experienced Specialised Support Workers to provide complex care and support to participants with higher needs, including those requiring positive behaviour support, complex health care, and restrictive practice management.
This role is suited to workers who bring strong clinical knowledge, advanced disability support skills, and the ability to respond effectively in challenging environments while maintaining a compassionate, person-centred approach.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality support to participants with complex physical, behavioural, and mental health needs.
Implement and follow individual care plans, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans, and health management plans.
Safely and appropriately apply approved restrictive practices in line with the NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission.
Administer medication and perform specialised health-related tasks (PEG feeding, seizure management, bowel care, etc.) in line with training.
Provide emotional regulation support and crisis intervention when required.
Support independence, skill building, and community access.
Document care provided, incidents, and behavioural data accurately and promptly.
Work collaboratively with families, guardians, allied health professionals, and other stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
Certificate IV in Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, or equivalent (minimum Certificate III with significant specialised experience will be considered).
NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card)
Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
First Aid & CPR Certificate (current)
Medication Administration Competency
Manual Handling Certificate
Valid Driver’s Licence & reliable, insured vehicle
Experience supporting participants with complex behaviours, restrictive practices, or significant medical needs
NDIS Orientation Module (mandatory)
Desirable Skills & Attributes
PEG feeding, epilepsy management, diabetes support, or other advanced clinical care training.
Experience with mental health support, trauma-informed care, or forensic disability support.
Strong communication skills with the ability to de-escalate and problem-solve under pressure.
Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries.
Cultural awareness and inclusivity.
