Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Soil Science Technical Officer to join our team, specialising in soil compaction testing and sampling. You will be responsible for conducting on-site soil density and moisture testing to support construction and engineering projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct in-situ compaction testing using nuclear density gauges (e.g., Troxler) in accordance with Australian Standards and project specifications.
Undertake field sampling of soils, aggregates, and other earth materials from construction sites.
Maintain, calibrate, and operate field and laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with radiation safety procedures and laboratory quality systems.
Record, interpret, and report accurate test data for project teams.
Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to support construction quality control.
Selection Criteria

Qualification in Soil Science, Geotechnical Engineering, Earth Science, Laboratory Technology, or related discipline (Certificate III/IV or higher).
Proven experience in soil compaction testing using nuclear density gauges and familiarity with AS 1289 testing methods.
Strong understanding of soil physics, soil classification systems, and geotechnical testing procedures.
Radiation Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain) for operation of nuclear testing equipment.
Competence in interpreting field test results and producing technical summaries.
Current driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites as required.
Ability to work outdoors in varied site conditions.
White Card (Construction Induction Card) or equivalent preferred.
