Senior Communications Officer - Driving Strategic Messaging for State Development

This critical Senior Communications Officer role requires a visionary communications expert who is highly comfortable operating in a busy media and deadline-driven environment. You will lead the development and implementation of innovative, quality communication services that are directly aligned with our strategic objectives. Working across a varied organisation that handles planning, development, and high-interest industrial projects, you will be responsible for creating compelling narratives, providing a strategic perspective to all messaging, and ensuring consistency across all communications and media channels.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications and Media Leadership: Lead the design, development, and implementation of highly effective strategic communications and media plans that deliver tangible results, specifically focusing on managing the organisation’s reputation and successfully promoting our core mission across all interesting projects.
Front-Line Media and Content Delivery: Serve as a primary communications contact, demonstrating comfort and capability in all facets of media relations. This includes working to tight deadlines to develop key messages and high-quality content for print, electronic, and online channels, such as crafting impactful media releases, responses to media inquiries, high-level speeches, and presentations.
Organisation-Wide Strategic Partnership: Provide expert communications advice and a strategic perspective to all key business areas, including planning and industrial development teams. You will collaborate with the Marketing and Engagement team to produce integrated, holistic communication solutions that touch nearly all teams.
Stakeholder and Ministerial Engagement: Maintain effective, client-focused stakeholder relationships with internal teams, high-level external partners, and Ministerial offices, ensuring all services and messaging are consistent and highly effective.
Operational Excellence and Innovation: Lead the function of media reporting and monitoring to inform future strategy, while proactively integrating creativity and awareness of the latest technologies to deliver innovative media services.

Specialist Communications Expertise: Significant, proven experience in Strategic Communications and Media Relations, coupled with demonstrated comfort and success operating under pressure and tight deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
Government Context Knowledge: A working knowledge of government practices, Ministerial frameworks, and approval pathways is essential for navigating the complexities of this high-profile sector.
Strategic Judgment and Adaptability: Exceptional judgment in managing issues and knowing when to escalate, demonstrating flexibility to changing expectations and proactively adapting approaches to reflect new requirements and priorities.
Team and Autonomous Work: Proven ability to take ownership and work autonomously on complex tasks while also contributing collaboratively and positively as part of a small, results-focused team.
