About

Do you have site-facing expertise in cell therapy clinical trials, and a passion for accelerating patient access to innovative treatments? Would you like to apply your expertise to impact clinical trial delivery and patient recruitment in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life‑changing medicines? Then AstraZeneca might be the one for you! About AstraZeneca AstraZeneca is a global, science‑led biopharmaceutical company focused on Oncology; Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM); Respiratory & Immunology (R&I); and Rare Disease. In Australia, we’ve delivered value to patients for more than 60 years, pushing the boundaries of science to bring transformative medicines to those who need them most. AstraZeneca is building a diverse, multi‑indication cell therapy portfolio across oncology and immune‑mediated diseases. Our Global Cell Therapy Clinical Operations (CTCO) team partners closely with Clinical Development and Medical Affairs to deliver high‑quality, fast, and reliable clinical trials. As we expand our cell therapy capabilities in Australia, we are crafting an agile, field-based function. This function brings deep protocol expertise to sites, improves patient enrollment and ongoing participation, and engages investigators with our broader cell therapy pipeline. What you’ll do Reporting to the Global Head, Cell Therapy (CT) Field Clinical Advisors within CT Clinical Operations, this Senior Clinical Trial Liaison role is field‑based and operates across multiple indications and trials. You will be the protocol expert and pipeline ambassador for active Australian cell therapy trial sites—uplifting site readiness, accelerating/unblocking patient recruitment and retention, and capturing insights to shape how we operate and scale. Based in Melbourne (preferred) or Sydney, with proximity to major cell therapy centres. Key Responsibilities: Drive recruitment, retention, and coordination of safety management for cell therapy clinical trials, enabling early insight generation across assigned sites and studies. Deliver advanced protocol education and competency‑based training to optimise patient journeys, improve start‑up timelines, and ensure compliance and protocol adherence. Capture and synthesise actionable field insights on feasibility, patient pathways, and operational bottlenecks to influence global strategies and improve operational performance. Collaborate across Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Patient Operations, Supply/Logistics and Country Ops to advance AstraZeneca’s diverse range of cell therapy programs and provide timely, concierge‑level support to sites. Translate inclusion/exclusion criteria into pragmatic site workflows; activate referral pathways and troubleshoot barriers to uplift enrolment and reduce screen failures and attrition. Serve as the primary field contact for protocol questions. Triage issues and raise them appropriately. Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce deviations and data queries. Drive one‑AZ coordination of the site “pod” (SMM/CRAs + Patient Operations), ensuring consistent insight capture via digital platforms and aligned customer engagement. Contribute to building the function in Australia—help shape training plans, SOPs, and playbooks; embracing ambiguity, frequent debriefs, and iterative improvements in a startup‑like environment focused on quality and speed. Essential for the role Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field; advanced degree preferred (PharmD, PhD, MSc, NP/PA, MD/RN). A minimum of 5 years’ background in clinical research or field-facing roles in oncology, hematology, or advanced therapies is required. Experience with clinical trials is essential. Direct cell therapy experience, including CAR-T or HSCT, is strongly preferred. Demonstrated GCP knowledge and strong grasp of the cell therapy patient journey (apheresis/collection, logistics, and safety management). Proven capability to lead protocol training, translate complex requirements into site actions, and influence without authority. Territory-based account leadership experience (ideally within/including a clinical trial setting); excellent stakeholder management and presentation skills. Willingness to travel regionally/nationally to support sites and programme needs. Patient‑ and site‑centric mindset with a data‑informed, problem‑solving approach and comfort with ambiguity in a build‑and‑scale environment. Desirable: Existing cell therapy site relationships in Australia and prior ownership of site performance metrics. Prior experience in major pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies related to cell-based therapies. Senior MSL experience focusing on clinical trials or Cell Therapy Liaison involved in clinical studies is preferred. Experience collaborating in cross‑functional site or customer-facing “pods” (e.g., Study Management/CRA, Patient Operations, Country Ops) and using digital insight platforms. Executive presence and calm under pressure; experience engaging Principal Investigators as a thought partner. Why AstraZeneca? At AstraZeneca we’re dedicated to being a Great Place to Work.
