About the Role We’re looking for a Senior SMSF Accountant who is passionate about building a long-term career in SMSFs. Responsibilities include: Manage a portfolio of SMSF clients, including client engagement and annual compliance work. Support the Partner and Director in overseeing the SMSF division. Providing support to team members, fostering a collaborative work environment. Prepare financial statements, tax returns, relevant SMSF documentation and audit files. Review and analyse SMSF financial statements and tax returns for accuracy and compliance. Liaise with clients, financial advisers, and internal stakeholders to resolve queries and deliver exceptional service. Address audit queries from external auditors promptly and effectively. Contribute to process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices, and share knowledge with the team. Assist with ad hoc projects and tasks as required. Skills/Attributes Required: Strong understanding of SIS Act and regulations, compliance requirements, and taxation principles. Strong communication skills, able to adapt style to suit different audiences, and ability to explain complex issues. Self-driven and assumes responsibility and accountability. Analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy. Proactive and results-oriented approach, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to monitor progress and remain 'across' jobs; owning them and striving to adhere to short and long-term deadlines. Strong digital skills including a good working knowledge of MS Office applications, cloud accounting platforms and add-ons. Willingness and ability to bring new ideas to the table. Proficiency in relevant software and tools, including SMSF administration platforms and accounting software. Supermate experience is desirable but not essential. Qualifications/Experience Required: Bachelor degree in Commerce, Accounting or similar CA/CPA qualified or near completion. Minimum 3 years’ experience in superannuation, with a focus on SMSFs. Previous experience in an accounting firm environment. SMSF-specific qualifications are desirable but not essential. Why BDO?
