About This Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity to join the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology (ACWEB), an internationally recognised leader in innovative water technology and environmental research. As a Scientific Officer within our Analytical Services Laboratory, you will play a key role in advancing world-class research and delivering high-quality analytical support to both internal researchers and external industry partners. In this position, you’ll contribute to impactful environmental solutions by applying your expertise in analytical chemistry to a wide range of instrumentation, ensuring reliable, accurate, and meaningful results. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you’ll support cutting-edge projects that address global challenges in water quality, environmental management, and sustainability. Key responsibilities will include: Provide high-quality scientific and technical support across a range of analytical chemistry instrumentation, ensuring accurate, reliable, and timely results for research and industry clients. Conduct sample preparation, analysis, and data interpretation to support impactful research outcomes in water quality and environmental biotechnology. Maintain, calibrate, and perform quality assurance on laboratory equipment and instruments, implementing best practice standards to ensure optimal performance. Contribute to laboratory operations by supporting safety initiatives, sustainability practices, and the continuous improvement of standard operating procedures. This is a full-time, fixed-term position up until November 2026 at HEW Level 5. About You A degree in chemistry or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience. Demonstrated knowledge of analytical chemistry methods, particularly in environmental and water analysis. Hands-on experience with instrumentation such as GC, HPLC, IC, TOC, FIA or ICP-OES, including the ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment. Strong data analysis skills with the ability to critically assess and interpret analytical results. Sound understanding of laboratory safety, risk management, and waste disposal procedures. Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia.
