About the Role:
Gardens Compounding Pharmacy is seeking a qualified and registered Retail Pharmacist to join the team. The role involves providing exceptional patient care, dispensing medications, managing prescriptions, and offering health advice and medication management services. The position offers a full-time role with a salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 plus Superannuation, with the opportunity to work in a supportive, community-focused pharmacy environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prescription Processing & Dispensing
- Receiving prescriptions, verifying accuracy, and ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards.
- Checking patients' medicine histories to identify interactions, contraindications, and ensure optimal dosage and administration methods.
- Preparing or supervising the preparation, packaging, and labelling of medicines (e.g., liquids, ointments, tablets, powders) to fill prescriptions.
- Advising prescribers on potential drug incompatibilities, contraindications, and alternative options.
Patient Care & Medication Management
- Educating patients on the safe use of prescribed and over-the-counter medicines.
- Reviewing and monitoring individual patient medication therapy to assess effectiveness and safety.
- Supplying non-prescription medicines, diagnostic aids, and therapeutic products.
- Promoting health awareness, disease prevention, and lifestyle advice to support community health.
Compliance, Safety & Record Keeping
- Maintaining prescription records, including controlled substances, narcotics, poisons, and habit-forming drugs, in line with legislative requirements.
- Ensuring proper storage, preservation, and stock rotation of medicines, including vaccines and serums subject to deterioration.
Team Supervision & Collaboration
- Supervising and coordinating the work of Pharmacy Technicians, interns, and sales assistants.
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals to support patient treatment and continuity of care.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or higher qualification in Pharmacy
- Current registration/licence to practise as a pharmacist with the relevant state/territory authority (AHPRA in Australia)
- Minimum 1 year of experience working as a pharmacist in a community or retail pharmacy setting
- Ability to safely and accurately dispense and handle medications
- Knowledge of pharmacology, including drug interactions, contraindications, dosage, and administration methods
- Understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements for controlled substances, narcotics, poisons, and habit-forming drugs
- Competence in preparing and overseeing the preparation and labelling of medicines (liquids, ointments, powders, tablets)
- Knowledge of correct storage and preservation of medicines, including vaccines and serums
- Strong attention to detail when verifying prescriptions and checking patient medication histories
- Excellent communication and counselling skills for educating patients about medicines, health promotion and disease prevention
- Ethical conduct and professional accountability, including accurate record-keeping
- Organisational skills for managing prescriptions, stock, and pharmacy staff supervision
- Ability to comply with pharmaceutical standards, quality control and safety protocols
- Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) and staying updated with new medicines and pharmacy practice.
