About the Position:
As Retail Manager at Bharat Spices, you will lead the day-to-day operations of our busy Indian supermarket, ensuring smooth store performance, exceptional customer service, and profitability. This hands-on leadership role involves overseeing stock management, staff supervision, supplier coordination, promotional activities, and full compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements. The position is crucial to maintaining our reputation as a go-to destination for authentic Indian groceries in the Mango Hill community, driving sales growth, and fostering a positive team environment that delivers outstanding service to our diverse customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and manage the store’s product mix by identifying fast-moving and culturally specific Indian grocery items, monitoring customer demand, and ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained at all times.
Coordinate purchasing activities by liaising with local and overseas suppliers, placing orders, negotiating prices, and ensuring timely delivery of products while maintaining quality and cost control.
Develop and implement pricing, purchasing, and in-store marketing strategies, including promotional offers and seasonal discounts, to drive sales and remain competitive in the local market.
Oversee store promotions and advertising activities through in-store displays, local marketing, and digital platforms to increase customer awareness and foot traffic.
Actively engage with customers on the shop floor by selling products, providing advice on product usage, ingredients, and cultural food preferences, and resolving customer queries or concerns.
Maintain accurate records of inventory, sales, and financial transactions using point-of-sale systems and accounting tools to support stock control and financial reporting.
Prepare and manage budgets for the store, including monitoring expenses, controlling wastage, and ensuring profitability targets are met.
Recruit, train, roster, and supervise retail staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels, clear role allocation, and high standards of customer service.
Ensure the store complies with Australian workplace health and safety requirements, food handling standards, and employment regulations by implementing safe work practices and conducting regular checks.

Bachelor degree (minimum qualification required).
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in retail management, preferably in a supermarket or specialty grocery environment.
Strong technical skills including proficiency with point-of-sale systems, inventory management software, and basic financial/budgeting tools; excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to lead and motivate a team, engage with diverse customers, negotiate with suppliers, and deliver high levels of customer service in a fast-paced retail setting.
