Salary: $77,000 plus 12 % super

Our client, Meat & Grain Newcastle Pty Ltd operates Meat & Grain Steakhouse Newcastle, a premium, South African-inspired steakhouse situated on the Honeysuckle waterfront offering chargrilled steaks, ribs, a curated drinks program and private functions in an elevated yet welcoming setting.

Meat & Grain Steakhouse Newcastle is seeking an experienced and dynamic Restaurant Manager to lead the team. The Restaurant Manager will lead end-to-end venue operations to deliver consistently excellent guest experiences, drive revenue growth, manage costs and compliance, and uphold Meat & Grain Steakhouse’s brand standards in a competitive premium-dining market.

The Restaurant Manager will lead and coordinate all aspects of the restaurant’s operations, ensuring consistently high service standards, customer satisfaction, profitability, and compliance with statutory obligations. This role is critical for maintaining the venue’s premium dining reputation, managing group bookings and events, and upholding regulatory standards in food safety, liquor licensing, and workplace health and safety (WHS).

Qualifications and Experience:
• A diploma or higher qualification in hospitality management, business, or a related field is preferred.
• At least three years of proven experience in restaurant management or a similar role.

Key Responsibilities:
• Organising and controlling daily restaurant operations, including front-of-house and back-of-house coordination.
• Planning menus in consultation with the Head/Executive Chef and managing special functions
• Setting and monitoring budgets, purchasing and pricing of goods, negotiating with suppliers, and managing cost controls.
• Ensuring compliance with NSW food safety laws, liquor licensing requirements, and WHS obligations.
• Recruiting, training, rostering, and supervising front-of-house staff while liaising with kitchen leadership.
• Monitoring guest satisfaction, handling escalations, and ensuring premium customer service.
• Driving marketing and promotional initiatives, including corporate outreach for event bookings.
• Oversee service standards, table turnover, and reservations, including corporate and social group bookings.
• Liaise with chefs on menu specials and plating standards.
• Inspect dining areas, bar, and amenities for cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and presentation.
• Manage and maintain financial and stock control systems.
• Respond to customer feedback and complaints; implement service recovery strategies.
• Lead staff training on service delivery, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), WHS, and allergen awareness.
• Monitor delivery quality of fresh and prepared food, check stock deliveries.
• Liaise with suppliers for procurement of tableware, utensils, beverages, and consumables.
• Conduct weekly labour cost and COGS reporting, recommending corrective actions.

Skills:
• Proven experience in restaurant management or hospitality management.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Sound financial acumen, including budgeting and cost control.
• Knowledge of food and beverage operations, including inventory management.
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations and compliance.
