An exciting opportunity to join the Snow Vision Accelerator Location: Loreto Group, Axon degeneration Lab, School of Medical Sciences, Charles Perkins Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health Full time, fixed term for 24 months, with the possibility of extension Base Salary from $89,755 to $100,495 (level 5) or $103,185 to $111,237 (level 6) + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Medical Sciences is recognised as one of the leading centres for medical science education in the world. Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas. The Research Officer leads research projects and optimises grant management processes. They drive the adoption of innovative research methodologies, and oversee the comprehensive management of data. They also nurture partnerships, manage research documentation, and ensure impactful dissemination of research outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Snow Vision Accelerator, a groundbreaking partnership between the University of Sydney and Snow Medical, backed by a $50 million investment from the Snow family over 10 years. Our mission is to develop life-changing treatments for glaucoma and other optic nerve diseases that cause irreversible blindness. Learn more about the Snow Vision Accelerator: https://www.snowmedical.org.au/vision-accelerator The successful candidate will join the Axon Degeneration Laboratory, led by Dr Andrea Loreto, which focuses on understanding how metabolic dysfunction and ageing contribute to optic nerve degeneration. In this role, you will contribute to developing research protocols, executing research activities, and ensuring excellence in laboratory training. You will be part of a dynamic, collaborative research team working alongside scientists and clinicians across the Snow Vision Accelerator, based in the state-of-the-art Charles Perkins Centre. Your key responsibilities will be to: lead and optimise research projects, ensuring methodologies are refined and research goals are met develop and optimise new techniques for the lab train and mentor new laboratory members to maintain high standards of excellence manage mouse colonies and support animal work maintain and oversee the use of laboratory equipment prepare research ethics for laboratory projects assist with data collection and analysis, ensuring quality and accuracy provide guidance on research regulations, policies, and procedures, ensuring projects align with standards provide advice on research direction, updating the team on the latest research methodologies and compliance requirements undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required. About you a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biological Sciences or a closely related field demonstrated experience working in a laboratory, including developing research protocols, implementing safety procedures and handling hazardous substances excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting strong organisational and time management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
