Job Title Research Officer Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Nicholson Laboratory in the Inflammation Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position The role of the Research Officer is to contribute to and influence the laboratory’s research program with minimum supervision. To provide advice and mentoring to Research Assistants and students. The appointee will be working under the supervision of Prof. Sandra Nicholson. The Nicholson laboratory works on understanding the mechanisms which regulate cytokine signalling, with the aim of developing new ways to enhance the immune response to cancer. We are seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral scientist with a strong background in immunology and mouse models of cancer to work within a multidisciplinary team working towards a common clinical goal. This position sits at the intersection of academia and industry and will suite someone who is passionate about research translation. The successful applicant will have experience in mouse models of cancer and analysis of anti-cancer immunity, with a demonstrated track record of academic productivity and innovation. A strong interest in translation of fundamental scientific discoveries is essential, and experience in drug discovery and development would be an advantage. Ideally the candidate will have prior experience working with industry. Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge and Skills: PhD in cancer cell biology, immunology or inflammation High level of technical competency in diverse laboratory skills, including mouse models of cancer, flow cytometry, cell biology, and molecular biology, including CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. Understanding of and commitment to animal ethics. Ability to meet industry deadlines. Desirable Knowledge and Skills: Background in cytokine signalling. Advanced skills in flow cytometry data acquisition and analysis. Understanding of drug development and testing. In vivo drug delivery and analysis in mouse models of cancer. Personal Qualities: Self-motivated, with excellent organisational and time management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent written reporting and presentation skills. Ability to work under time constraints. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to robust, high-quality research Impeccable record keeping and data management. A demonstrated interest in drug discovery, inflammation and immune cell responses. Terms of Appointment This position is available for 1.5 years in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level A6-A8 ($104,071 - $111,707). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
