  • Part time (0.5FTE) fixed term contract for 12 months, based at Kolling Institute, Royal North Shore Hospital campus Opportunity for a dedicated Research Officer to support effective delivery of research outcomes Base salary from $103,185 (pro rata) + 17% superannuation About the opportunity We are conducting a clinical trial examining the benefits of heart rate variability feedback and paced breathing on the function of the autonomic nervous system in adults with a chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). We are now looking for a Research Officer who will assist the research team to process complex biosignals, (including EEG, fNIRS, HRV and continuous blood pressure) collected in a clinical trial in a severely disabled population (SCI). The Research Officer will also optimise project management processes, drive the adoption of innovative research methodologies and help oversee the comprehensive management of data. Your key responsibilities will be to: process and analyse complex biosignals, including EEG, ECG, blood pressure, and fNIRS, collected during clinical trials, using platforms such as Labview, Matlab, R, and SPSS to ensure high-quality data integrity and usability optimise research project outcomes by identifying efficiencies, refining analytical approaches, and ensuring alignment with defined research objectives and timelines provide strategic research direction by keeping the team informed of emerging methodologies, technologies, and compliance requirements, and supporting senior researchers in integrating these into ongoing projects undertake additional duties consistent with the scope and classification of the role, contributing to the broader success of the research team and adapting to evolving project needs advise the research team on the adoption and implementation of innovative methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and scientific rigour manage and maintain comprehensive documentation related to the processing and analysis of complex biosignals, ensuring transparency, reproducibility, and adherence to ethical and institutional standards. About you tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience experience in data collation and processing, with strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling complex datasets familiarity with research software tools such as SPSS, R, MATLAB, REDCap, Remark, or similar platforms used in data analysis and research workflows experience working in public health, healthcare, or biomedical research settings, with an understanding of sector-specific data challenges and ethical considerations demonstrated experience working within the higher education sector, including collaboration with academic researchers and navigating institutional research environments proficiency in applying data science techniques, including statistical modelling and machine learning, to extract insights from diverse and complex datasets demonstrates a strong ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
