Job Title Research Assistant Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Dewson Lab within the Ubiquitin Signalling Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position The role of the Research Assistant is to provide technical and operational support for the Dewson lab and Parkinson's Disease Research Centre. They will be responsible for providing support in the care, maintenance and motor testing of mice as part of our research to understand Parkinson's disease. Observational skills must be particularly attuned to the health and welfare of the animals under their care. They will also support ongoing laboratory work with techniques including but not limited to tissue removal, basic injections and immunohistochemistry to understand disease pathology. The Research Assistant will be responsible for performing experiments and accurately recording all results to contribute to research as directed. Selection Criteria Personal qualities: Good communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment Passion for biomedical research and learning Ability to work as part of a team using experimental protocols Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, methods and theories are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other researchers Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable Willing to take direction and have progress reviewed where required Knowledge and skills: BSc with Honours or Masters in an appropriate area of study, or relevant experience Experience in animal handling and behavioural testing in rodents Demonstrated laboratory research experience, experience in immunohistochemistry techniques desirable. Basic computer skills and ability to accurately record data, results and the development of new methods and theories Project management, excellent oral and written communication and reporting skills Terms of Appointment This position is available for one year in a full time capacity. Salary is Research Support Employee level 5 ($82,018-$94,209). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
