Salary: $80,000 plus 12% superannuation
Our client is an established fruit & vegetable wholesaler passionate about delivering high-quality, fresh and seasonal produce to businesses across Sydney. Operating from a state-of-the-art warehouse at Sydney Markets with cool-storage and on-site prepared product capabilities, the business supply government institutions, hospitals, aged-care, clubs and hotels.
The client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Quality Assurance Manager to lead and continuously improve QA and food-safety systems across sourcing, cooled storage, prepared/hand-cut processing and distribution. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with SQF v8, HACCP and NSW Food Authority requirements, managing supplier assurance, traceability and cold-chain integrity, and leading the QA team and training programs.
Key responsibilities
• Lead, develop and maintain the company’s Quality Management System and HACCP plans.
• Manage day-to-day QA operations across incoming produce inspection, cool-room controls, prepared/hand-cut processing and dispatch.
• Oversee traceability systems (paddock-to-plate) and coordinate product labelling, batch records and electronic traceability logs.
• Maintain NSW Food Authority licence requirements for ready-to-eat production and ensure legislative compliance.
• Implement and monitor temperature and cold-chain monitoring systems, daily logs and corrective actions.
• Plan, conduct and report internal quality audits; coordinate and host external audits (SQF, customer audits, regulators).
• Manage supplier approval, supplier audits and incoming quality checks; work with growers and packers to resolve non-conformances.
• Design, oversee and interpret microbiological and chemical testing programs and corrective actions.
• Manage product holds, withdrawals and full recall processes where required.
• Train, mentor and lead QA and production staff in food safety, hygiene and QA procedures; build a strong food safety culture.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, extend shelf life and enhance sustainability and operational efficiency.
• Prepare accurate QA reports and present findings to senior management.
Skills & experience
• A bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field is desirable.
• Minimum one year experience in a QA/food safety management role — experience in fresh produce, cold-chain or ready-to-eat food manufacturing strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated practical experience with SQF, HACCP and NSW Food Authority requirements.
• Strong analytical skills, experience interpreting microbiological test results and implementing corrective actions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — ability to work with growers, packers, production and logistics teams.
• Proficiency with QA paperwork and electronic record systems; strong attention to detail.
You will have demonstrated capability in developing and maintaining successful quality frameworks and proven experience delivering business outcomes through management system processes.
