Join one of Australia’s most iconic mining operations as we embark on the next chapter of the Copper Smelter
(CuSm) Extension. As Project Manager – Smelter Projects, you’ll lead a portfolio of complex, multidisciplinary
projects critical to the long-term future of Mount Isa Mines.
This is not a study role — it’s a hands-on, execution-focused position. You will take responsibility for delivering
projects from concept through to commissioning and operational handover, ensuring practical outcomes are
achieved safely, efficiently, and to specification.
Key projects include the Alternative Site Entry, Weighbridge Upgrade, Concentrate Sampler Installation, Third-Party Concentrate Storage and Handling Facility, and Concentrate Feed System Upgrade — all essential to the CuSm recovery and expansion program.
...We’re seeking a results-driven professional who thrives on delivery, brings energy and ownership to every
challenge, and is motivated by seeing real outcomes achieved on site.
About the Role
Reporting to the Superintendent – Smelter Projects, you will:
• Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of CuSm recovery projects in accordance with the
Capital Management Framework (CMF).
• Manage project scope, budget, and schedule to deliver safe and timely commissioning and handover
to operations.
• Oversee study documentation, business cases, and capital approval requests while ensuring clear
progression from concept through feasibility to execution.
• Coordinate design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, maintaining high
standards of quality, safety, and performance.
• Engage with internal stakeholders, engineering teams, and external regulators to ensure alignment of
scope, requirements, and design.
• Manage contract tendering, award, and performance oversight for contractors and suppliers.
• Drive practical project delivery by resolving issues proactively and maintaining momentum across
multiple work fronts.
• Build and develop a capable team to support safe, efficient, and compliant execution.
• Ensure all project governance, reporting, and risk management processes are maintained to Glencore
standards.
About You
You’re a proven project professional who delivers — someone who thrives on action, drives accountability,
and gets things done. You’re equally comfortable in the boardroom and in the field, guiding teams through
challenges and maintaining focus on safe, effective delivery.
You will also have:
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in project engineering or management within mining, processing,
or heavy industrial environments.
• A degree qualification in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• Demonstrated success delivering multidisciplinary projects from concept through to commissioning
and handover.
• Strong understanding of project governance, capital approval processes, and site execution under the
CMF.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with internal committees,
regulators, and external partners.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage contracts, and ensure safe, compliant delivery under pressure.
• Exceptional communication, organisational, and planning skills, with a hands-on approach and a
strong focus on execution and results.
