Position Description
? Plans, manages and supervises the activities of the Coal & Geochem laboratory and
performs standard assay procedures to assure their delivery in an accurate and
timely fashion using proper safety precautions.
? Quality – ensure that the laboratory output meets Mitra PTS’ requirements in terms of
quality and timeliness
? Safety – achieve and sustain an injury free workplace
? Housekeeping – ensure that the laboratory is kept clean and tidy, and is set up in a
manner to ensure the efficient processing of test work
? Sample Receival / Storage
? Purchasing – liaise with the Operations Manager, scrutinise / monitor expenditure –
issue purchase requisitions in accordance with purchasing procedures when required
? Liaise with the Sample Preparation Supervisor to ensure quality and efficiency are
maintained for project work
? Ensure quality procedures and safety standards are met
? Liaise with the Geochem Laboratory Supervisor with regards to improving operational
procedures
? Perform test work as required, and assist in training technicians in test work
procedures
? Be compliant to all QHSE and HR policies and procedures.
? At all times, comply with Mitra PTS’ Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
Skills and Qualification Requirements
? Tertiary qualification in relevant field desirable.
? Relevant Diploma or equivalent essential.
? Minimum 12 months experience in a laboratory environment in Australia or Overseas
? Management/supervisory experience preferred.
? Laboratory management/supervisory experience
? Strong classical wet chemistry experience
? Operation and calibration of laboratory equipment – ICP, SC Analyser, XRF, etc
? Physically fit and capable of performing physically demanding duties from time to
time.

? Must wear PPE, clothing and safety equipment as instructed
? Must care for and maintain safety equipment
? Must report safety or health issues in the workplace
