Woods Grain part of the WOODS group, is looking for a full time Production Manager to join their team in Goondiwindi, Queensland.

1. PURPOSE OF POSITION

To manage and continuously improve the production processes and employees of Woods Grain, and ensure the effective and efficient utilisation of Woods Group resources in the manufacture and distribution of product to customer requirements, ensuring delivery in full, on time and within specification.

2. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and coordinate Grain cleaning, bagging, pulse splitting, flour production at Woods Grain
• Participate in the establishment of production strategies, goals and targets that optimise capacity and maximise throughput.
• Monitor production output against established goals and key performance indicators.
• Promptly identify deviations from production plans and implement plans to correct deviations and report significant or continued deviations to the Operations Manager.
• Organise and manage physical and human resources to achieve production plans.
• Manage staff activities and monitor their performance
• Implement and coordinate occupational health and safety requirements
• Coordinate the operation of production plant and quality procedures through planning of maintenance, designation of operating hours and supply of parts and tools
• Liaise with all relevant internal stakeholders to achieve production goals. This includes liaising with the Woods Grain Logistics and Planning staff and Woods Grain Operations Manager to ensure adequacy of raw materials supply.
• Participate in product development trials and research as required.
• In conjunction with the Operations Manager, plan for the taking of leave and approve leave in a timely manner
• Prepare production records and reports
• Establish and maintain effective communication with all Woods Group company departments.

Supervise Staff
• Set, communicate and manage staff rosters to meet with legal, financial, workplace health and safety and production requirements.
• Supervise, coordinate and direct processing staff during operational activities.
• Review and approve employee timesheets on a daily basis
• Ensure that new staff are supervised and trained in the relevant operational procedures in accordance with the Woods Grain Training Plan.
• Ensure that grievance procedures are communicated and employed promptly to manage conflict.
• Ensure that disciplinary actions are implemented in accordance with Woods Group procedures.
• Escalate grievances, disciplinary matters and queries on employee conditions to the Operations Manager and the Group HR Manager

Monitor and maintain product quality and food safety standards.
• Manufacture finished product within customer and Woods Grain specifications, critical limits and quality parameters.
• Conduct cleaning and hygiene programs as stipulated in Woods Group procedure.
• Ensure that hygiene requirements are adhered to by all persons particularly hand washing and gowning requirements.
• Calibrate equipment and processes as specified in accordance with Woods Group procedure.
• Continuously monitor critical limits to ensure that these are achieved and maintained at all times.
• Continuously monitor and evaluate product quality at designated sample points in accordance with Woods Group procedures.
• Adjust and manipulate processes to achieve minimum product quality specifications and manage problems identified during the process.
• Complete all receival, production, dispatch, quality and safety documentation in accordance with the Woods Group QMS and as directed.

Maintain Woods Grain processing plant, equipment and infrastructure
• Start, maintain, clean and shut down plant and equipment to ensure asset longevity, product quality, food safety and production targets in accordance with Woods Group procedures and plant operation manuals.
• Maintain plant, equipment, buildings and essential services in a hygienic, safe and serviceable condition, and ensure that any damage and/or structural failures are reported to the Operations Manager.
• Implement and maintain acceptable housekeeping standards that minimise dust, general waste and spilt product build -up.
• Ensure departmental security through appropriate control of visitors, contractors and bystanders to minimise the potential for accidental or intentional contamination of product or processes.
• Secure plant and buildings in accordance with documented shut down procedures.
• Raise MEX order request for non emergency repairs and maintenance.
• Raise work orders for emergency repairs to electrical or mechanic plant and equipment.

Maintain MEX system
• Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are completed in full and on time.
• Complete active work orders in full and on time.
• Follow up with staff with respect to outstanding work orders and their planned completion.

Implement the Woods Group Quality Management Systems
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the processes, procedures, practices and systems relating to Woods Grain processing functions
• Identify, record and report problems and non-conformances relating to product, process or procedure to the Operations Manager.
• Participate in the revision and update of processing procedures and forms as required.
• Report pest sightings by recording in the Pest Sightings Book.
• Regularly inspect the condition of cleaning equipment and report breakages or malfunctions to the Operations Manager.
• Regularly inspect the condition of any equipment or tools used to monitor critical control points or quality specifications and report breakages or malfunctions to the Operations Manager.
• Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of corrective actions to address non-conformances.
• Actively and willingly participate in internal and external audits.
• Actively acquire an increased knowledge of product and process.
• Assist the Quality Manager Woods Group in the investigation and resolution of customer complaints.

Report to the Operations Manager Woods Grain
• Identify and report critical information regarding quality, throughput, food safety, health and safety, hygiene, maintenance, calibration and procedure to the Operations Manager to assist in the decision-making and problem-solving process.
• Report to the Operations Manager in relation to annual leave, illness and injury, and any other employment matter.
• Report to the Operations Manager any welfare or employment matters relating to staff under your supervision.

To participate in the development and implementation of the Woods Group Training Plan.
• Participate in the development of the Woods Group Training Needs Analysis and implementation of the Training Plan.
• Ensure that employees are provided with the opportunity to participate in training as documented in the Training Plan.
• Participate in the evaluation and continuous improvement of the Woods Group training program.

Implement and participate in the continuous improvement of the Woods Group Health and Safety program.
• Adhere to all reasonable Woods Group Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Follow all reasonable requests from Woods Group and Woods Grain managers.
• Take reasonable care of your health and safety and ensure that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons, property or the environment.
• Communicate health and safety information and requirements to staff under your supervision.
• Provide adequate information, instruction, training and supervision to employees to enable work to be performed safely.
• Implement safe systems of work that ensure the safe use, handling, storage and transport of all plant, equipment, product, materials and substances.
