Role Summary
The Primary Products Quality Assurance Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing quality assurance programs within a primary production or processing enterprise. This role ensures that animals, plants, and agricultural produce meet strict government, industry, and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Management: Develop and oversee monitoring and testing protocols for quality assurance programs.
- Compliance & Auditing: Conduct regular audits and inspections of farms and processing facilities to ensure adherence to HACCP, FSSC, and others.
- Product Testing: Sample and test produce for quality, size, purity, and residue using in house equipment.
- Hygiene Monitoring: Ensure hygiene standards are strictly observed in storage, packing, and transport vehicles.
- Stakeholder Advisory: Provide expert advice to producers on pest identification, disease eradication, and regulations for grading and packing.
- Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all inspections and testing results and prepare reports for management.
- Staff Training: Train operational teams on food safety protocols, hygiene, and new quality control procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: An AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Food Technology, Agricultural Science) is typical.
- Certification: Current HACCP certification is often mandatory.
- Experience: At least 2–3 years of experience in a QA/QC role, preferably within meat, dairy, or fresh produce processing.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and documentation software.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with production staff and external auditors.
Knowledge of biosecurity and export regulations.
Salary & Career Outlook
- Salary: Range from $75,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on the specific industry and experience level.
