Poultry Farmer

We produce fresh RSPCA Approved and FREPA Accredited free-range chicken, supplying retailers and wholesalers across Australia. Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Poultry Farmer to manage all farm operations, ensuring the health, welfare, and productivity of our poultry while meeting business goals. This role involves overseeing production, livestock management, staff supervision, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

1. Main Responsibilities
o Oversee and manage the breeding, raising and general care of poultry for egg and meat production.
o Implement feeding, watering and nutrition programs to maintain flock health and performance.
o Monitor bird welfare, health, behaviour, and environmental conditions, including managing biosecurity risks and farm hygiene.
o Plan and coordinate daily farming operations such as collection, grading and packing of eggs, livestock handling, medication programs and equipment sterilisation.
o Manage and maintain farm infrastructure including sheds, pens, feed systems, water supply and irrigation systems.
o Organise the movement, sale and purchase of birds and farm produce.
o Maintain accurate farm production records, analyse data and plan production activities in line with market requirements.
o Oversee farm technology systems and ensure accurate data collection.
o Manage farm budgeting, costs, production forecasting and capital requirements.
o Supervise, train and support farm workers and contractors as required.

2. Skills
o Strong understanding of poultry husbandry, animal welfare, nutrition and biosecurity principles.
o Ability to analyse flock performance data and implement corrective actions.
o Competence in operating farm machinery, equipment and automated systems.
o Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
o Ability to supervise staff and coordinate farm operations effectively.
o Knowledge of farm safety requirements and compliance standards.

3. Experience, Including Number of Years
o Minimum 3 years’ experience in poultry or livestock farming, including hands-on work with breeding, animal husbandry, feeding programs, and farm infrastructure maintenance.
o Experience managing or supervising staff is desirable.

4. Qualifications
o Certificate/Degree in Agriculture, Poultry Production or a related field (or equivalent experience).
o Formal qualifications may be substituted with substantial relevant work experience.
