Institute for Molecular Bioscience Full-time (100%), fixed-term position through to October 2026 Base salary will be in the range $82,057.75 - $109,246.18 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A) Based at The Prince Charles Hospital About This Opportunity This is a fantastic opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to grow their expertise and build a strong, emerging research profile in a high-impact field. You’ll collaborate with leading clinicians and scientists in advanced life support, contributing to meaningful service and engagement activities. Supported by a team with a proven track record of translating research into clinical trials, you’ll be encouraged to take ownership of the project and drive innovation. Key responsibilities will include: Research: Lead research on the role of complement activation and immune cell dynamics in ECMO, designing and implementing preclinical and translational studies. Develop and refine clinically relevant models (ex vivo ECMO blood loop, patient plasma, and large-animal systems) to investigate inflammation and immune dysregulation. Apply advanced immunological, molecular & histological techniques to characterise immune pathways and therapeutic interventions. Contribute to high-impact outputs including publications, conference presentations, and grant applications. Seek independent research funding and develop novel projects within CCRG’s ECMO inflammation program. Contribute to competitive grant applications at institutional, state, and national levels, supporting CCRG’s success in securing external funding. Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Honours students and provide day-to-day mentoring of PhD candidates. Train students and early-career researchers in advanced laboratory and analytical methods. Support students in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and conference presentations. Citizenship and Service: Engage with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, scientists, and engineers across CCRG. Contribute to collaborative grant submissions, stakeholder engagement, and CCRG outreach. Demonstrate leadership through mentoring, internal service roles, and promotion of CCRG’s research values. Serve on external committees to contribute to the broader cardiovascular research community and foster collaborative opportunities. This is a research focused position. About You Completion of a PhD in immunology, biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or related fields. Research expertise in complement biology, immunology, and inflammation, with a strong emerging profile in ECMO and critical care. Evidence of peer-reviewed publications including first-author work in high-quality journals. Experience designing and conducting preclinical models, including ex vivo ECMO loops, large-animal models, and cell culture systems. Proven track record of successful grant supervision, including mentoring students to obtain competitive funding. Demonstrated experience in student supervision and mentoring, with Honours and postgraduate students under guidance. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, with strong problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience contributing to the development of successful competitive grant applications.
