We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in mitochondrial biology to join our dynamic research team. This appointment is a collaborative venture between the Microvascular Research and Vascular Complications Groups. The project is to advance our understanding of how the mitochondria contribute to cardiovascular physiology and pathology. Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and conduct research in mitochondrial biology, focusing on understanding mitochondrial dynamics, bioenergetics, and their roles in cardiovascular health and disease.
• Design and execute experiments involving animal models that have analytical, biochemical and biological readouts.
• Perform microsurgery and other relevant techniques required for studying cardiovascular diseases in vivo and in vitro.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data, and present findings through publications, presentations, and reports.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers.
• Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals, progress reports, and other scientific documentation.
• Mentor and supervise students and research assistants within the lab.
• Stay current with the latest developments in the field of mitochondrial biology and related disciplines.
Essential criteria – you will have:
• Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with a strong focus on mitochondrial biology
• Strong technical skills in redox biology, analytical biochemistry and molecular biology which are necessary for conducting mitochondrial-directed research.
• Demonstrated experience in animal handling, including the ability to conduct procedures in compliance with institutional and governmental regulations.
• Strong track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present research findings.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency in microsurgery and other relevant in vivo techniques for studying cardiovascular disease and mitochondrial function.
• Experience in advanced imaging techniques for studying mitochondria in cells and tissues.
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and data analysis software relevant to mitochondrial research.
• Experience in supervising or mentoring junior researchers.
• Highly motivated with a capacity for independent work
• Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
