We are a passionate team of professionals and utilise the best equipment and machinery the industry has to offer. Due to continued growth, we are currently seeking a Picture Framer to join our team. We welcome both experienced picture framers and those who are handy with tools, practical, and enthusiastic about learning a new trade. Full training can be provided and we are open to full time or part time for the right candidate.
Job Description
As a Picture Framer at Arts Edge, you will create high-quality, custom frames that preserve and showcase our clients artwork, photographs, and keepsakes. The role combines craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail, using both traditional techniques and modern equipment.
Experienced framers will work with high-end materials and complex projects, while candidates new to the trade will receive full training in all aspects of picture framing, including timber mouldings, mounts, mat cutting, glazing, and conservation techniques.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Studying drawings, work orders, and sample parts to determine framing specifications
Determining tooling, material, and machine requirements and planning the sequence of operations
Setting up woodworking machines and wood stock for correct cutting, planning, turning, shaping, and sanding
Operating machines to cut, plane, turn, shape, and sand frame components to precise measurements
Removing old finishes using steel wool, glasspaper, solvents, and paint strippers; scraping softened finishes as required
Applying surface finishes such as varnish, shellac, lacquer, stains, and paint; polishing and waxing finished surfaces
Fitting and fastening frame pieces accurately and securely
Mounting and assembling artwork, backing materials, and glazing for presentation and preservation
Ensuring high standards of quality and attention to detail in all framing work
Skills and Experience Required
For experienced candidates:
Skilled in operating woodworking tools and machinery
Strong attention to detail and an eye for design
Ability to read and interpret drawings and work orders
Good manual dexterity and craftsmanship skills
Ability to work independently and within a team
For candidates new to the trade:
Previous experience in a hands-on, practical role (e.g. woodworking, construction, cabinet making, or similar)
Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn
Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
Reliability, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude towards training
