Gonzalez Steel is seeking an experienced and reliable Painter/Painting Trades Worker to join our in-house surface preparation and painting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and applying protective and decorative coatings to steel structures, ensuring a high standard of finish in accordance with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities
• Prepare surfaces by removing rust, old coatings, and contaminants using blasting or manual techniques
• Repair surface imperfections by filling cracks, grinding welds, and smoothing finishes
• Mix and prepare paints, primers, and coatings to match project requirements
• Apply paint, primers, and coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment
• Erect and dismantle ladders, scaffolding, and other access equipment safely as needed
• Mask and protect adjacent areas to prevent overspray or paint splatter
• Clean and maintain painting tools, equipment, and work areas
• Follow safety protocols and company procedures at all times
• Collaborate with team members to ensure project deadlines and quality standards are met
• Maintain an organised and safe work environment

Experience, Skills & Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years' experience in painting
• Knowledge of protective coatings and surface prep standards (e.g., AS/NZS 2312)
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
• Good physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• White card preferred
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
• Certificate III in Surface Preparation & Coating Application (or working towards it)
