Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital As an Orthopaedic Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies used in orthopaedic and neurosurgical procedures, and for providing technical support to the surgical team during operations. The Position Ensure the maintenance of orthopaedic and neurosurgical equipment and supplies, including co-ordination of ordering, delivery and receipt of consignment stock and instrumentation, under the direction of the Manager/Co-ordinator. Prepare all implants and instruments used in orthopaedic & neurosurgical surgery for Sterilisation and assists CSSD staff with the preparation of specialised equipment. Ensure the maintenance of orthopaedic and neurosurgical records. Liaise with orthopaedic and neurosurgical company representatives to ensure required in-service is provided where appropriate. Liaise with Manager/ Co-ordinator regarding cost effectiveness of stock/equipment utilisation. Ensure orthopaedic instruments and prostheses required for scheduled operations are checked in detail before and after use Ensure inventory control of CSSD processed items is performed as per policy statement. Check relevant inventory to ensure adequate supplies are ordered, prepared and ready for use. Monitor the use of storage areas in the department and related areas. Maintain responsibility for ensuring the provision of a safe working environment, adhering to requirements of hospital policies and procedures relating to Work, Health & Safety and Infection Control. Ensure a clear and concise standard of documentation. You will hold demonstrated knowledge of Orthopaedic equipment and application thereof with effective communication and interpersonal skills to work as a team member. You will have demonstrated ability to plan and organise work activities with basic computer skills. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to quality improvement. Relevant qualifications, including CSSD Sterilisation Certification, and recent experience in an Orthopaedic Theatre and/or CSSD will be highly regarded.
