The Responsibilities

Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in vehicles using standard and electronic diagnostic tools

Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brakes, and suspension systems

Perform scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance

Carry out component replacements such as clutches, steering systems, and exhausts

Maintain and repair vehicle electrical systems, including batteries, alternators, and lighting

Ensure compliance with Australian safety and environmental standards

Prepare and maintain accurate service records and reports

Inspect vehicles and recommend necessary repairs or maintenance

Operate workshop tools and machinery safely and efficiently

Assist apprentices or junior mechanics as needed

Liaise with customers regarding service requirements and provide professional advice

Continuously update technical knowledge on new automotive technologies and repair methods.

The Requirements

AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent

Minimum 2–3 years of post-qualification experience in automotive repair

Demonstrated competency in vehicle diagnostics and mechanical repairs

Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Valid driver license

Strong attention to detail and adherence to WHS standards

Qualifications and experience should be suitable for recognition by the relevant Australian skills-assessment authority (TRA)
