The Research Program is seeking a meteorologist to contribute to a small team conducting innovative research on techniques to combine and enhance the output of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models within the Integrated Model post-Processing and Verification (IMPROVER) system. The aim is to produce accurate, probabilistic, high resolution gridded guidance for the Bureau's forecasters to use in the Bureau's operational forecast production process.

The successful applicant will possess a good knowledge of and have experience in meteorology and forecasting, including the use of post-processed guidance from NWP in the forecasting process. They should demonstrate an understanding of NWP models and factors affecting their performance, the application of statistical correction techniques to improve NWP forecasts, and strategies for assessing forecast performance.

This position will be a key member of the Forecast Improvement Team developing objective forecasting guidance and techniques. More specifically, work areas will include the development of new post-processed rainfall guidance systems for hydrology customers under the Next Generation Rainfall Standardisation project, along with contributing to improvements to the existing rainfall gridded forecast guidance within IMPROVER.
