Northern Stevedoring Services is looking for a full time Mechanical Tradesman (Fitter) to join their team in Queensland.

Job Role

This position provides safe and cost-effective repair and maintenance of mobile equipment and fixed assets for NSS.

Job Duties

Diagnose faults and carry out efficient mechanical corrective action on vehicles, machinery and equipment to minimize equipment failure, lack of availability and possible delays.

Diagnose electrical faults and fit electrical accessories to vehicles.

Diagnose and repair automotive air conditioning systems.

Ensure handovers are informative and efficient to support maintenance continuity.

Repair and maintain mobile equipment within required safety and operational guidelines. Equipment may include but not limited to:

a. Dozer

b. Front End Loader

c. Excavator

d. Forklifts

e. Skid steer

f. Trucks

g. Cranes

Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts and repairing electrical wiring and computer based equipment.

Skill and Qualifications

· Essential

a) Current C class drivers’ license

b) MSIC or the ability to obtain one

c) Relevant trade qualification

· Desirable

a) Post Trade courses pertinent to mobile machinery repair, diagnosis and maintenance.

b) Occupational license pertaining to equipment being repaired.

c) Elevated work platform license (WP) - high risk

d) Forklift license – high risk

It is essential for the position holder to demonstrate experience and/or knowledge in the following:

· Experience and knowledge of heavy machinery repair and maintenance

· Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work autonomously, exercise initiative and maturity

· Willingness and ability to work a flexible roster with call out requirements

· Ability to read and understand schematic drawings.

· Basic to intermediate level computer literacy

· Ability to plan and organise work

It is desirable that the incumbent is able to demonstrate experience and/or knowledge in the following:

· min 1 year previous experience in the required qualifications for the position

· Workplace Health and Safety knowledge and experience
