We are currently seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team and play a critical role in supporting, maintaining, and improving the mechanical systems across our facilities.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Engineering Technician at Australian Meat Group, you will provide technical support in the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and plant equipment across our meat processing facilities. The role involves working closely with Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists to ensure mechanical assets operate efficiently, safely, and in accordance with design specifications and regulatory requirements.
You will contribute to the development, testing, and improvement of mechanical equipment and systems, supporting production reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You’ll Be Doing
· Preparing and updating mechanical drawings, layouts, and technical plans under the guidance of Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists.
· Assisting with the design, development, and modification of mechanical plant, machinery, and equipment used in processing operations.
· Selecting appropriate tools, machinery, and equipment for installation, testing, and maintenance activities.
· Assembling, installing, and commissioning new or modified mechanical components, machine tools, control systems, and hydraulic equipment.
· Supporting the estimation of material quantities, equipment requirements, and associated costs for mechanical projects.
· Conducting and assisting with field and workshop testing of mechanical systems to verify performance and reliability.
· Collecting operational data, analysing results, performing technical calculations, and preparing diagrams, reports, and documentation.
· Coordinating and supervising routine inspections and preventative maintenance of mechanical machinery and plant.
· Ensuring that all mechanical work complies with engineering specifications, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities
· Mechanical Support: Provide hands-on technical assistance for the installation, maintenance, and optimisation of mechanical systems and equipment.
· Testing & Analysis: Perform testing and data analysis to support engineering decisions and improve system performance.
· Maintenance Coordination: Assist in organising inspections and maintenance programs to minimise downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
· Compliance & Quality: Ensure all designs, installations, and completed works meet relevant standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
· Continuous Improvement: Contribute to improvements in plant efficiency, reliability, and operational processes through technical input and analysis.
About You
· Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineering Technician or in a similar technical role
· Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment, and plant operations
· Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, plans, and technical specifications
· Hands-on experience with installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment
· Well-developed problem-solving and analytical skills
· Effective communication skills and ability to work closely with engineers and operational teams
This is subject to your skills, qualifications and experience, but it would be within a salary range of between $75,000 - $85,000 per annum + superannuation.
