Salary: $80,000 plus 12% superannuation
We are recruiting on behalf of BGS Hydraulics Pty Ltd trading as BGS Hydraulic & Industrial Solutions Pty Ltd, a well-established mobile hydraulic repair and industrial solutions provider in Sydney, NSW that provides hydraulic repair, mobile service, fabrication and hydraulic system solutions. Known for its rapid response field services and high-quality workmanship, BGS Hydraulics supports a wide range of construction, transport, industrial and heavy equipment clients.
The Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson will prepare and maintain detailed technical drawings, schematics and fabrication documentation to support the design, repair, manufacture and installation of hydraulic systems, components and associated mechanical equipment. The role involves close collaboration with hydraulic technicians, engineers and workshop teams to ensure accurate design documentation and efficient production outcomes.
Key responsibilities
• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for hydraulic systems, hose assemblies, fittings, manifolds, power packs and mechanical components.
• Develop fabrication drawings, hydraulic circuit layouts, assembly diagrams and parts schematics.
• Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical specifications, revision records and assembly documentation.
• Liaise with engineers, hydraulic technicians and workshop staff to ensure drawings reflect field requirements and manufacturing feasibility.
• Support custom fabrication and repair activities by providing accurate technical drawings for bespoke components.
• Assist with estimating materials, machine requirements and production timelines for quoting and planning.
• Ensure all drawings and documentation comply with relevant safety standards, engineering specifications and Australian compliance requirements.
• Maintain drawing registers and document control systems to ensure accurate versioning and traceability.
• Occasionally assist with site measurements and updating as-built drawings following field modifications.
Qualifications & experience
• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Drafting or a related discipline.
• Minimum one year experience in mechanical drafting; experience in hydraulics, fabrication or heavy equipment industries is highly desirable.
Skills & competencies
• Strong technical drafting and CAD modelling skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• Understanding of mechanical design principles, hydraulic components, materials and fabrication processes.
• Familiarity with Australian WHS and engineering compliance requirements.
• Ability to interpret hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with workshop and field service teams.
• Strong organisational and documentation control skills.
