We are seeking a skilled and dependable Motor Mechanic (General) to maintain, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems and petrol engines in light vehicles. The role involves performing routine servicing, inspecting components for safety and efficiency, and conducting mechanical repairs in line with manufacturer specifications and road safety regulations. Registration or licensing may be required.

This position is ideal for individuals with solid hands-on experience or formal qualifications in light automotive servicing, who are confident working across modern diagnostic systems, petrol engines, and core vehicle systems such as steering, suspension, braking, and transmissions.

Key Responsibilities:
Detect and diagnose mechanical faults in engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, and braking systems.

Dismantle, inspect, and remove engine assemblies and related vehicle components for repair or replacement.

Carry out repairs and servicing on petrol engines and associated systems, referring to service manuals and technical diagrams.

Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, engine tune-ups, brake pad replacement, and fluid top-ups.

Reassemble engines and components after repairs, ensuring proper alignment and torque specifications.

Use manual and computerised diagnostic tools to test and calibrate mechanical parts and electrical sensors.

Road test vehicles to verify repair effectiveness, engine tuning, and system safety compliance.

Ensure all work complies with relevant pollution, emissions, and safety regulations.

Maintain workshop cleanliness, tool storage, and follow WHS procedures.

May inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates, or provide advice on required repairs to meet compliance.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent), including at least 2 years of on-the-job training; OR

At least 3 years of relevant full-time experience in motor mechanics may substitute for formal qualifications.

Strong understanding of light petrol engine systems, drivetrain components, and vehicle mechanics.

Competence in using diagnostic tools, service equipment, and workshop instruments.

Knowledge of current emissions and road safety regulations in Australia.

Good communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to non-technical clients.

Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Desirable:
Prior experience with automatic transmissions, brake systems, or automotive air-conditioning (specialisations).

Vehicle inspection accreditation or certification to issue roadworthy certificates (state dependent).

Experience using OEM service portals and technical databases.
