Randstad is proud to partner with a market-leading manufacturer of automation solutions across Australia and New Zealand. Part of a larger industrial group, our client is known for delivering robust, high-quality electromechanical systems for residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
As they expand their engineering team to develop the next generation of automation products, we are seeking a Product Development Engineer with a strong mechanical focus to join their team.
The Role
Reporting directly to the National Product Manager, you will be responsible for the design, testing, and continuous improvement of new and existing systems. This is a hands-on role that balances 3D CAD modeling with real-world lab testing and mechanical problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Modelling: Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for mechanical components using SolidWorks.
- Prototyping: Build and assemble product prototypes within the internal lab.
- Rigorous Testing: Conduct functional and durability testing, including IP ratings, impact resistance, and operational cycle testing.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate BOMs, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and resolve design issues through hands-on validation and support the maintenance of existing product lines.
- Technical Support: Assist in preparing datasheets, installation instructions, and user manuals.
What You’ll Bring
Essential Requirements:
- A Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience in product design and testing.
- High proficiency in SolidWorks and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Practical, hands-on experience with tools and assembly in a testing environment.
- A solid understanding of relevant engineering standards and compliance.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with automatic entrance systems, access control, or electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with physical testing for endurance and mechanical loads.
- Experience working within an R&D or SME manufacturing environment.
