JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a qualified Management Accountant for our packaging distribution company in Dandenong South. This full-time permanent role involves managing financial operations, inventory accounting for warehouse stock, and preparing reports for our Hong Kong head office. You'll handle day-to-day accounting, ensure Australian tax compliance, manage inventory valuation, and serve as the financial liaison between our Australian operations and international head office. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of the finance function in a stable, growing business.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Financial Reporting & Management
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB)
Prepare management reports and financial analysis for Hong Kong head office monthly
Prepare consolidation packages for group reporting requirements
Monitor financial performance and provide variance analysis with recommendations
Manage foreign currency transactions and exchange rate adjustments

2. Inventory & Warehouse Accounting
Oversee inventory accounting and maintain accurate stock movement records
Conduct regular inventory reconciliations between physical counts and financial records
Analyze inventory levels, turnover rates, and identify slow-moving stock
Implement inventory costing methods (FIFO, weighted average) in compliance with standards
Work with warehouse team to ensure proper inventory controls

3. Day-to-Day Financial Operations
Process accounts payable and receivable transactions efficiently
Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow
Maintain fixed asset register and calculate depreciation
Process expense reimbursements and ensure proper transaction coding

4. Australian Tax Compliance
Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
Ensure accurate GST treatment for domestic and international transactions
Prepare annual company tax returns and coordinate with external advisors
Maintain tax records for ATO compliance and assist with annual audits

5. Budgeting & Analysis
Develop annual budgets in collaboration with management
Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital
Track budget vs actual performance and explain variances
Provide financial analysis to support business decisions

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field (AQF Level 7 or equivalent)
CPA Australia or CA ANZ membership, or actively progressing toward qualification

Essential Experience:
Minimum 3 years in management accounting, financial accounting or similar role
Proven experience with inventory accounting and stock management in warehouse/distribution environment
Experience preparing financial reports for overseas parent companies
Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB)
Experience with BAS preparation, GST compliance, and company tax returns

Essential Technical Skills:
Proficiency in accounting software (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or ERP systems)
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling)
Understanding of inventory valuation methods and costing principles
Knowledge of foreign currency accounting and consolidation processes
Solid understanding of Australian taxation laws and ATO compliance
