Overview: The main role of Library Concierge is to deliver high level customer service while working at the Library Concierge service points, and to undertake physical maintenance of the collections. Concierge duties include responding to basic queries such as directional and orientation questions and referral to other Library services such as Ask the Library or Study Support. Other Concierge duties include performing physical collections tasks and project work. Any particular rostered shift will include customer service, collections tasks, and collection maintenance tasks, or a combination of these tasks. Library Concierge are required to open and close Library spaces. The role may also be required to work across various Library sites on projects and programs of work. A device and uniform (apron) will be provided to staff while they are undertaking concierge duties to support referrals and responses to questions. Training will be provided in safe manual handling practices, Dewey Decimal system, service orientation, basic customer queries and customer service. Key Accountabilities Provide concierge services to Library users such as responding to directional queries, orientation of users to equipment and services, referrals to other Library services. Provide ad hoc assistance or referral advice to Library users while within public collections spaces. Customers have timely and efficient access to well-maintained physical collections of the Library. Contribute to shelving and retrieval of collections materials including returns and holds. Perform group or team Collection maintenance projects and tasks as directed by the Coordinator. Collect and process items from Pick lists as directed, straightforward data entry. Key Selection Criteria Effective communication skills, especially in dealing with customers and colleagues. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Experience in the use of computers, particularly email and basic Excel skills. Knowledge and understanding of safe manual handling practices as they relate to libraries is desirable, training will be provided. Knowledge and understanding of the Dewey Decimal classification system for sorting library materials is desirable, but training will be provided.
