  • The School of Applied Psychology is one of Australia’s leading providers of psychology and counselling education, producing graduates who make a meaningful impact in clinical, community and workplace settings.
  • We are now seeking a Lecturer (Level B) - Counselling to take a key leadership role in coordinating and managing the School’s internal counselling placement and associated community-based placement sites. This role will contribute directly to the quality of clinical training, supervision, and learning outcomes across the Counselling program.

Here’s how you’ll make it matter

  • Manage and coordinate internal counselling placements and satellite community placement sites, maintaining strong communication with course convenors, placement officers and external supervisors.
  • Oversee clinical operations, including student placement scheduling, supervision allocation and client management systems to ensure accreditation compliance.
  • Provide individual clinical supervision to counselling students while upholding ethical and professional standards (PACFA/ACA).
  • Maintain a continual presence during internal placements to guide and support students.
  • Teach into counselling courses, including course convenorship and curriculum development aligned with current industry standards.
  • Monitor and ensure secure, accurate maintenance of student placement records in systems such as SONIA and ZANDER.
  • Participate in competency interviews and ensure students meet mandatory requirements prior to client work.
  • Contribute to School and program governance, professional engagement activities, and advisory groups (PCAG, IAB).
  • Engage in counselling-related scholarship or research, including counselling education and supervision.
  • This is a continuing, part-time (0.6 FTE) position based at either Griffith University’s Brisbane South (Nathan) or Gold Coast campuses. As Griffith is a multi-campus University, you may be required to work across other locations.
  • Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
  • Salary Range
  • The full-time equivalent base salary will be Academic Level B range $113,226 - $134,460 per annum + 17% superannuation.
  • The total FTE package will be in the range $132,474 - $157,318 per annum.

You will also have

  • A postgraduate qualification in counselling, counselling psychology, or a closely related discipline, with current registration or clinical membership with PACFA or ACA.
  • Eligibility as a clinical supervisor in accordance with PACFA or ACA supervision standards.
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision and supporting practice-based learning.
  • Strong professional understanding of clinical governance, ethical practice and accreditation requirements.
  • Evidence of high-quality, student-centred teaching in counselling or related fields.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community placement organisations.
