The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region. The IUIH Legal Service is an accredited community legal centre and provides legal services for IUIH clients on a range of matters including child protection, family law, domestic violence and elder abuse; and civil matters including discrimination, human rights, consumer law, tenancy and guardianship. About the Role? As a Lawyer with our Legal Team, you will work closely with the Legal Services Manager and Principal Lawyer to deliver services to clients in Logan, Brisbane South and Bayside. Day to day duties will include: Providing accessible and culturally safe legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients Provide high quality legal services to clients including information, advice, casework, advocacy and referrals as well as contributing to the delivery of legal education when required. Attend outreach appointments with clients at health clinics, including Salisbury, Logan and bayside, with a base location at Windsor. Contribute to the development of appropriate referral networks for clients seeking advocacy, advice and / or legal representation About You? Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) Current Criminal History Check Valid Blue Card (Working with Children) Bachelor Qualification in Law (LLB) and holds or is eligible to hold a current practising certificate (restricted or unrestricted) At least 2 years post admission experience Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business. Desirable, but not mandatory: Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities Experience in, or knowledge of, child protection, family law and/or domestic violence legal issues What Can we Offer?
