Intertek Minerals provides geochemical assay and testing services, minerals inspection and trade services to support the minerals and mining supply chain globally.
We are currently looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Laboratory Manager to join our team.
About the Role:
Management of the resources available at the branch including preparation of budgets, setting prioritiesobjectives, allocating resources to ensure optimum outcomes whiles maintaining effective cost control.
Ensure lab performance KPI are in line with contractual obligations and performance requirements.
Ensure analytical data is provided on time and review any delays to optimize laboratory operations. Inclusive of monthly and quarterly end of month reports for client presentation and reviews.
Manage priorities and monitor progress to ensure timeliness and quality of results.
Ensure performance reviews for employee are done and completed within stipulated time and provide guidance and counsel to staff for improving performance of employees.
Personal management of consumables via monthly stock take and order.
Maintain Quality Management System and Laboratory Manuals.
Maintain and improve own knowledge to be able to contribute towards progression of the laboratory.
Coordinates all administrative and personnel issues with the head office and HR Department.
Provides the appropriate support, counselling and when necessary disciplinary measures to maintain the Intertek values and Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
Maintain good client relations through monthly meetings and inform management of any issues.
Review P&L monthly to ensure it is inline with budget. Where discrepancies found they must be investigated and rectified.
Safety, Health and Environment Responsibilities:
As Laboratory Manager, you will play a leading role in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE). This includes:
- Creating and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace environment.
- Complying with all work instructions, work procedures, safe work procedures and safe work instructions, including written methods and verbal instructions from your supervisor.
- Ensuring safety reporting KPI matrix are up to date and available for review as part of monthly end of month reporting.
- Wearing, maintaining and disposing of personal protective equipment in the correct manner.
- Identifying and reporting safety hazards and taking action to mitigate the risks to an acceptable level.
- Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping in the work area.
- Taking reasonable care of your own psychological and physical safety and health.
- Exercising responsibility and authority to stop a task or operation when an imminent hazard to persons, property or the environment is identified.
- Participating in all risk management processes, such as completion of risk assessments, SWI and stop work authority reviews.
- Reporting all OHSE incidents and/or near misses immediately.
- Cooperating with all reasonable safety and health policies and procedures.
- Ensuring all employee training matrix are up to date and providing action plans to update staff as per role requirements.
- Taking good care of equipment, ensuring it is not misused or damaged.
- Participating and/or leading safety meetings, toolbox talks or other safety forums and providing feedback to management.
About You:
Qualification and Experience:
- A relevant qualification in a science discipline or overseas equivalent.
- At least 2 years lab management experience or similar.
- Knowledge of XRF Laboratory Operations and issues.
- Experience in mineral sands processing or similar extraction techniques (Lithium Borate Fusion).
- Sound working knowledge of XRF instrumentation, methodology and software application (Panalytical Zetium preferable).
Skills and Abilities:
- Good understanding of computer applications CCLAS/LIMS.
- Ability to consistently meet KPIsobjectives.
- Ability to understand QAQC requirements for different sample types trade/shipment samples to process plant and grade control.
- Ability to examine possibilities for improving financial management and reporting procedures for laboratory and associated operations.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to a small group of people.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure understanding of document control processes.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail when organising and maintaining documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to address document-related compliance issues and safety concerns.
- Efficiently manage document control tasks and safety responsibilities by prioritising critical activities and allocating time effectively.
