Job Title Laboratory Assistant Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Laboratory Assistant to join the Preparation Service team within Services & Infrastructure Department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position Our Central Services team and play an important part in supporting world-class research. This hands-on role involves collecting, cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilising reusable laboratory ware, along with handling linen services and supporting stock functions. You’ll use equipment such as autoclaves, glassware washers, and dry heat ovens, while ensuring safety and compliance at every step. We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a team and contributing to a supportive environment and is reliable, adaptable, and organised. You must pay attention to detail and take safety seriously. We want you to bring a positive attitude and be open to learning new skills. This is a great opportunity to build experience in a supportive environment and be part of the behind-the-scenes team that keeps vital research running smoothly. Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge and Skills: Ability to understand and follow service facility SOPs Ability to take direction from supervisory staff Ability to communicate well with colleagues and institute staff Ability to work in a dynamic team environment Desirable Knowledge and Skills: Understand and be familiar with operation of laboratory equipment Computer literate Experience in a similar work environment Personal Qualities: We’re after someone who enjoys working in a team, is reliable, and can adapt when things get busy or change. If you’re organised, pay attention to detail, and take safety seriously, you’ll fit right in. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are just as important as experience. Terms of Appointment This position is available for a 12 month parental leave cover in a part time (0.6 FTE) capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee (PSE) Level 2 ($62,727-$65,265).
