Thomas Wing S Wong, established in 2000, a premier horse training professional in NSW, Australia. We are a boutique racing stable based at Clarendon NSW.

Thomas Wing S Wong’s operations are multifaceted, encompassing two primary aspects. Firstly, the company actively engages in competitive horse racing sanctioned by Racing Australia, a governmental body dedicated to supporting the sport and rewarding horse owners with substantial prize money. As a dedicated horse owner, the company works closely with a diverse clientele, both local and international, who entrust us with the training and care of their valuable horses. The company has successfully trained thoroughbred racehorses that have gone on to achieve notable victories in Australia. Secondly, we are helping owners from Asia to buy young horses in Australia, educate them, and bring them to a 3 or 4 year old stage before exporting them to Asia.

Position overview:

Thomas Wing S Wong now seeking an experienced and dedicated horse trainer to join our team. This is a full-time role offering above-award wages for the right candidate. The successful applicant will play a vital role in the day-to-day care and management of our horses and facilities.

Main Task
-Train racehorses to respond to verbal/non-verbal cues, address behavioural issues, accept jockeys/harness equipment, and condition them for competitive racing (per Australian industry standards).
-Prepare horses for races (nominations, gear checks, warm-up, post-race recovery) and train/condition them for competition, aligned with Racing NSW/Racing Victoria guidelines.
-Organise/supervise compliant interstate horse transport, ensuring safety and minimising travel stress.
-Maintain accurate training diaries, vet records and performance metrics; liaison with owners, racing authorities, vets and stable staff.
-Monitor horses during/post-training for health/ behavioural abnormalities; conduct daily checks for limb/hoof/muscle strain, lameness or injury.
-Report horse progress/performance to head trainers, considering age, physical condition and racing objectives; ride or instruct trackwork riders for training sessions.
-Groom racehorses (bathing, clipping, hoof trimming, ear cleaning) and maintain clean, disinfected, compliant stables/yards.
-Manage horse nutrition (feed transport, water replenishment) per individual needs; maintain health records, administer minor first aid and escalate serious conditions to vets.
-Ensure horses receive balanced nutrition/rest/training to prevent over training; coordinate with vets, physiotherapists and farriers for treatments/rehabilitation.
-Exercise/interact with horses, assist visitors and move horses between yards; administer insecticides to control external parasites (per Australian regulations).

Other Tasks:
-Documenting: maintaining meticulous financial records to track expenses and income related to their training activities, adhering to precise accounting protocols to ensure that financial transactions are handled accurately and transparently.
-Providing expert guidance: offering support in various aspects such as horse auctions and equine well-being, advising horse owners on matters related to the care and status of their horses, helping them make informed decisions that benefit the well-being and performance of their equines.
-Facilitating auctions: attending horse auctions with our clients from Asia. Liaise with veterinarians for the selection of horses at the auctions.

Qualified Candidate Must Have:
- Qualifications/Experience: Hold an AQF Certificate III with a minimum of 2 years of on-the-job training; or an AQF Certificate IV; or have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience (either met).
- Health: Meet the relevant health standards of the industry.
-Skills: Extensive practical experience in horse training; Fluent Mandarin and Cantonese are mandatory (90% of our clients are from Asian regions).
-Teamwork: Strong team player with a willingness to collaborate with team members.
-Professionalism: Maintain strict confidentiality of company and client information; punctual and efficient, able to multi-task and pay close attention to details; highly motivated, hardworking and committed to delivering work to high standards.
-License: A valid license to transport horses to racecourses across New South Wales is mandatory.
