We now have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Project Development to join our Energy Solutions team in Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne office on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Executive General Manager - Gas Powered Generation, you will lead the identification, development, and maturation of gas power generation projects that support APA’s strategic growth. With two direct reports and access to matrix resources across the business, you will be responsible for delivering investment-ready opportunities through structured development planning, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional coordination. This is a hands-on, commercially oriented role that offers the opportunity to shape early-stage development activity across our gas power generation portfolio and help deliver projects that contribute to APA’s energy transition strategy. Key Responsibilities Lead the identification, feasibility assessment, and early-stage development of gas power generation projects that drive strategic growth Build and present robust investment cases to senior executives and investment committees, supporting informed decision-making Manage cross-functional matrix teams to deliver customer-focused outcomes across the full project development lifecycle Oversee negotiation of key project agreements (e.g., land access, connections, construction) within delegated authority, balancing risk and value Coordinate project budgets, timelines, and risk frameworks to ensure projects progress through key stage gates towards investment readiness Engage internal and external stakeholders to align technical, commercial, and regulatory inputs and integrate development initiatives into APA’s broader strategy Your background Proven experience leading infrastructure or energy project development through early feasibility to investment approval Sound commercial and financial acumen, with experience in building and presenting investment-grade business cases Skilled in managing cross-functional teams in a matrix environment, ideally with previous people leadership experience Comfortable working in ambiguity and adapting development pathways to changing policy or commercial conditions Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical audiences A collaborative working style with the ability to drive alignment and deliver outcomes across internal teams and external partners Working at APA At APA we’re committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace where you can achieve your best.
