Head of Engineering
The Head of Engineering is a senior leadership position responsible for defining and executing the technical vision, scaling engineering organisations, and ensuring delivery of secure,
high-quality products. As a core member of the executive team, you will oversee engineering strategy, architecture, and operations across multiple business domains, while mentoring leaders and cultivating a high-performance, collaborative culture. This role requires a strong balance of hands-on technical expertise, organizational leadership, and business acumen to drive engineering excellence and deliver impactful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Technical Leadership
? Define and execute the company’s technology roadmap, aligning engineering initiatives with business objectives and product strategy.
? Make foundational architectural decisions to ensure scalability, reliability, and compliance across systems.
? Establish robust security and compliance practices (ISO, PCI DSS, KYC/KYT/AML) to meet industry standards.
? Lead through periods of growth, crisis, and pivots, ensuring stability, innovation, and adaptability.

Organisational Development
? Build, mentor, and scale distributed engineering teams, fostering ownership, accountability, and innovation.
? Establish and refine engineering culture through values, metrics, OKRs, and continuous improvement practices.
? Develop future leaders by coaching engineering managers and senior contributors.
? Drive adoption of modern engineering practices (SRE, CI/CD, DevSecOps) across the organization.

Execution and Delivery
? Oversee end-to-end delivery of products from idea to production, balancing speed with quality and compliance.
? Manage cross-functional collaboration with product, operations, design, and business stakeholders.
? Implement frameworks for system performance, incident management, and financial accountability of technology investments.
? Lead vendor negotiations, budgeting, and external audit processes to ensure cost-effectiveness and operational resilience.

Innovation and Growth
? Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and architectures (Cloud-native, Kubernetes, microservices).
? Champion innovation by encouraging experimentation and rapid iteration while ensuring robust systems in production.
? Represent engineering in fundraising and due diligence processes, showcasing technical strengths and risk management.

Qualifications
? 12+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 5+ years in leadership roles (Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, CTO).
? Proven track record of scaling engineering organizations from early-stage startups to large-scale operations (50+ engineers).
? Experience driving zero-to-one product development, market pivots, and post-acquisition integrations.
? Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS, Alicloud, Kubernetes), architecture design, and distributed systems.
? Strong background in security, risk management, compliance frameworks, and regulated environments.
? Demonstrated ability to lead remote-first, globally distributed teams with high retention and engagement.
? Skilled in budget ownership, vendor management, and executive-level decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications
? Experience in fintech, or other highly regulated industries.
? Contributions to open-source projects or publications in engineering/architecture.
? Master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Information Security (or equivalent).
? Strong public presence (talks, articles, community leadership) in engineering and technology.
? Multilingual experience working across Asia-Pacific and global markets.
