🎯 Overview We are seeking an experienced Google Ads and Google Tag Manager (GTM) specialist to troubleshoot and finalize our conversion tracking setup. Our key conversion actions (Phone Clicks, Get Directions, Outbound Clicks) are showing "Inactive" in Google Ads, despite the tags being recently built in GTM. We require a thorough audit, testing, and final publishing of a reliable tracking solution. 📝 Project Goals & Deliverables The successful freelancer will be responsible for the following deliverables: 1. Google Tag Manager (GTM) Audit & Finalization • Audit Existing Tags: Review the four existing tags in GTM (Global Tag, Conversion Linker, Get Directions, Phone Click) to ensure correct configuration. • Fix Phone Click Tag: Confirm the Conversion Label for the GA Ads - Conversion - Phone Click tag is correctly entered and associated with the proper tel: click trigger. • Implement Outbound Click Tag: Create and configure the tag and a specific trigger to accurately track Outbound click conversions (clicks to external partner/finance sites). • Verify GTM Publication: Ensure all changes are correctly published to the live environment. 2. Conversion Verification and Troubleshooting • Tag Assistant Testing: Use GTM's Preview mode/Tag Assistant to live test all three website conversion events (Phone Click, Get Directions, and Outbound Click) on both desktop and mobile views. • Data Layer/Variable Audit: Investigate if any necessary built-in variables (like Click URL or Click ID) are failing to capture data, potentially requiring custom variables. • Resolve "Inactive" Status: Troubleshoot and fix any configuration issues that are preventing Google Ads from receiving data, moving the status from "Inactive" to "Recording Conversions". 3. Documentation & Handover • Provide a brief document summarizing the changes made in GTM and confirming that all three primary website conversion events are firing correctly upon action. 💼 Required Experience • Expertise in Google Tag Manager (GTM): Must be able to create, configure, and troubleshoot Custom Click Triggers and variables. • Expertise in Google Ads Conversion Tracking: Deep understanding of Conversion IDs vs. Conversion Labels and the role of the Conversion Linker. • Proven ability to troubleshoot "Inactive" or "Conversion action wasn't detected" errors. • Familiarity with tracking mobile-specific events (e.g., tel: protocol clicks). ⏳ Project Timeline • Immediate start, with a goal to complete the audit and implement fixes within 1 business day.
