Practice Information:
A new service is being developed which will be a medical practice owned by the Aboriginal Medical Service, with limited appointments for vulnerable patients who are registered with the service. The availability of services will increase as the Medical Workforce increases. This local indigenous community organisation also runs a housing co-operative and many health, family support and employment projects. The new service will run as a mixed fee for service and bulk billing practice with a focus on preventative health care and management of chronic illness. Services will commence in late July 2024 and will gradually increase the services available with the intention to open services to the whole community. The services will operate from a dedicated facility supported by practice management, reception, and senior aboriginal health workers. The organisation places a strong emphasis on preventative healthcare and the management of chronic illnesses, reflecting its mission to provide comprehensive care to the community.
Position Details:
This role involves serving as the primary General Practitioner at the practice, which operates at a steady pace. Key details include:
No on-call responsibilities.
Working hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:00am – 5:00pm (lunch break 12:30pm – 1:30pm); Thursday, Friday 7:00am – 3:00pm (lunch break 12:00pm – 1:00pm).
Proficiency in Medical Director and Pracsoft 4.2 software would be beneficial
The position encompasses conducting Health Checks (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander, 4-year-old, 45-49, 75+), creating Care Plans, and performing Cervical Smears.
Referrals for Cervical Smears can be directed to our local hospital's Women’s Clinic if necessary.
There may be occasional nursing home visits during regular hours.
Home visits for established patients will be at the discretion of the GP.
