The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a General Farm Hand to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The primary purpose of the role is to support / provide / deliver the effective operation of the Loxton Research farm by undertaking a range of practical activities typical to commercial irrigated horticulture. Assistance is also provided to research projects in assessing cultural and irrigation practices through the application of treatments, collection of samples and maintenance of data records.
The role contributes delivering the agency’s priorities including Increase Productivity, Grow Regions, Perform Well.
The role contributes to delivering applied science that grows South Australia’s primary industries. The Loxton Research Centre (LRC) is a center of excellence for research, development, and end extension in the Riverland and Northern Mallee bringing innovation to horticultural and agronomic production systems across Australia. As a shared facility for PIRSA it provides offices, laboratories, glasshouses, and field plantings for SARDI researchers, PIRSA and staff amongst a variety of other collaborative groups including government, private enterprise, industry, and international research agencies.

Special Conditions
- Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.

Requirements
- Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive.
- Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.

- You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- Relevant experience in farming practices.
- The role requires the operation of a truck, tractor, spray equipment, fork lift, front end loader, RTV utility vehicles and chainsaw.
Remuneration
GSE5 - $1,555 min - $1,166.60 max per week, plus superannuation
