Retail Buyer – Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 + superannuation

GBO Four Pty Ltd is seeking a Retail Buyer for our Surfers Paradise team. We operate two iconic souvenir and gift stores in Queensland’s busiest tourist precinct, with high daily foot traffic and strong seasonal peaks. The Buyer will plan purchasing budgets and merchandise ranges, determine styles, quality specifications and order quantities, and manage a stock base of ~3,500 SKUs sourced from a broad network of local and overseas suppliers. The role includes raising and tracking dozens of POs per month, coordinating supplier negotiations and lead times, and allocating inventory across both stores to meet demand—this is not a front-line sales role. Experience in souvenir/gift categories is highly regarded, as these products form the core of GBO’s retail offering.

What you’ll do:
• Plan and manage merchandise ranges and purchasing budgets for two stores.
• Determine styles, quality specifications and order quantities across ~3,500 SKUs.
• Monitor sales and stock levels; raise and track dozens of POs per month to meet demand.
• Negotiate prices, delivery schedules and promotions with local and overseas suppliers; manage lead times and allocations.
• Schedule seasonal product drops tied to tourism cycles; analyse margin/sell-through to refine buy plans.
• Conduct regular store visits to review presentation and stock flow (this is not a front-line sales role).
• Work with management to recommend retail pricing strategies and promotional campaigns that optimise sales and margins.
• Provide input into in-store merchandising and display strategies to maximise product visibility and alignment with seasonal trends.
• Research competitor offerings, consumer trends and supplier innovations to inform buying decisions, pricing and product presentation.

What we’re looking for:
• Diploma in Business, Marketing or related field.
• 2+ years’ experience in retail buying/procurement/merch planning.
• Strong analytics, planning and negotiation skills; confident with sales/stock reporting tools.
• Experience in souvenir/gift categories is highly regarded.
• Current police clearance (or willingness to obtain).
