Full-Time (38 ordinary hours per week)
SUMMARY
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and validation of LED
luminaires and driver circuits, ensuring compliance with relevant Australian and international
standards. This role oversees electrical engineering activities from concept through to mass
production, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, safe, and cost-
effective products.
DUTIES
• Design and develop LED luminaires and driver circuits, including schematics, PCB layouts, and bills of materials, optimizing electrical, thermal, and optical performance.
• Translate project briefs into technical requirements; ensure compliance with AS/NZS and IEC standards (e.g., AS/NZS 60598, IEC 61347, CISPR 15/32), RCM/EMC regulations, and company quality policies.
• Conduct circuit, thermal, and optical modeling; perform design reviews, DFMEA/FMEA, and risk assessments.
• Build, test, and evaluate prototypes; execute verification and validation plans (photometric, surge, EMC, thermal cycling, ingress/impact ratings), documenting outcomes.
• Liaise with internal and external labs/certification bodies; compile technical construction files and evidence packs for approvals and RCM labelling.
• Support DFM/DFT, pilot builds, and process validation; create work instructions and test procedures to enable mass production.
• Diagnose electrical, firmware, and production issues; perform root-cause analysis (e.g., 5- Why/8D) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Source and qualify components; collaborate with suppliers to improve specifications, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
• Work closely with mechanical, industrial design, firmware/software, quality, and operations teams to deliver integrated products on time and within budget.
• Maintain drawings, schematics, BoMs, DVP&R, test reports, ECNs/PCNs, and compliance documentation.
• Implement value engineering and cost reduction initiatives while maintaining safety and compliance; track field performance and drive product reliability improvements.
• Ensure safe ESD lab practices, WHS compliance, and environmental compliance (e.g., RoHS/REACH).
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Relevant postgraduate qualifications or certifications in electronics, lighting, or control
systems (optional).
• Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience in electrical engineering or related fields.
• Knowledge of Australian and international electrical standards (AS/NZS, IEC) and RCM/EMC
compliance requirements.
• Strong proficiency in electrical design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Eagle, or similar PCB
design software).
• Ability to create and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and bills of materials (BoMs).
• Experience in prototyping, testing, and validation of electrical products, including
photometric, EMC, surge, and thermal tests.
• Knowledge of DFMEA/FMEA, risk assessment, and root-cause analysis methodologies (e.g.,
5-Why, 8D).
• Ability to source and qualify electronic components, liaising with suppliers for specification,
reliability, and cost optimization.
• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with mechanical, industrial design,
firmware/software, quality, and production teams.
• Project management and organizational skills to deliver products on time and within
budget.
• Proficiency in English is essential.
