Job Description – Childcare Group Leader (Room Leader)
Position Title: Childcare Group Leader (Room Leader)
Reports To: Centre Director / Educational Leader
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range $77,000 - $79,000 + superannuation
Purpose of the Role
The Childcare Group Leader is responsible for planning, organising, and leading activities to support the care, education, and wellbeing of young children. This role ensures compliance with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), National Quality Standards (NQS), and all relevant regulations, while providing leadership to a team of educators within the room.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate programs for children.
• Organise stimulating and safe learning environments that promote children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
• Supervise, guide, and support educators and assistants in the room.
• Observe, record, and assess children’s learning and behaviour, ensuring accurate documentation.
• Ensure compliance with health, hygiene, nutrition, and safety standards at all times.
• Establish positive relationships with families and provide regular feedback on their children’s progress.
• Encourage inclusive practices and respect for cultural diversity.
• Collaborate with the Centre Director and Educational Leader to continuously improve educational practices.
• Maintain resources and equipment to support program delivery.
• Comply with all centre policies, regulatory requirements, and the Education and Care Services National Law.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or higher, recognised in Australia).
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in early childhood education, including group leadership.
• Strong knowledge of EYLF and NQS.
• Ability to lead and mentor educators in providing high-quality care and education.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Current Working with Children Check and First Aid/CPR (including Asthma and Anaphylaxis).
