D Fresh Produce is a leading agricultural enterprise specialising in Asian vegetables. Operating on a 50-acre farm in Mangrove Mountain, the business has increased its production capacity tenfold through the adoption of innovative farming methods, including hydroponics and mechanisation. The farm produces premium herbs and vegetables such as white radish, baby bok choy, shallots, coriander, mint, and parsley, supplying the Sydney Growers Market five days a week. The Lin brothers are committed to delivering quality produce while leveraging industry trends and technological advancements to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Position Summary
The Agricultural Technician plays a key technical support role in D Fresh Produce’s commercial farming operations. The position supports crop production through hands-on involvement in planting, irrigation, fertilisation, pest and disease control, crop monitoring, data recording, and harvesting activities.
The role works closely with the farm manager and agronomists/consultants to ensure crops are produced efficiently, safely, and in line with quality and food safety standards. This is a skilled technical role requiring practical agricultural experience, strong observational skills, and the ability to support modern farming systems across soil-based and protected cropping environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist farm managers and technical staff in implementing crop production plans, including soil preparation, planting, spacing, and seasonal scheduling.
• Support full-cycle crop production activities from planting through to harvest, including assisting in harvest planning and production processes.
• Monitor crop growth conditions, including soil moisture, temperature, humidity, plant health, flowering, and yield performance.
• Conduct routine crop inspections to identify pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies, and assist in implementing control measures under supervision.
• Assist in the preparation and application of fertilisers, including base and top dressings, and support nutrient management by observing plant response and soil conditions.
• Oversee and monitor drip irrigation and sprinkler systems across production areas to support efficient water use.
• Collect, maintain, and update accurate production and field records, including crop growth, irrigation schedules, fertiliser use, pest control treatments, and harvest yields, to support planning, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Research and assist in developing improved methods of planting, fertilising, harvesting, and processing crops to optimise land use and productivity.
• Ensure all pest control, fertiliser, and irrigation activities comply with safety requirements, usage guidelines, and farm procedures.
• Work collaboratively with farm teams to ensure daily operations are completed efficiently and in accordance with production plans.
• Support continuous improvement in farming practices, productivity, and resource efficiency as directed by management.
Qualifications and Skills
• Relevant qualification or at least three (3) years of highly relevant work experience in agriculture; experience in herb, fruit, or vegetable farming is advantageous.
• Practical knowledge of crop production, irrigation, fertilisation, and pest and disease management.
• Ability to monitor crop conditions and identify early signs of stress, disease, or pest activity.
• Experience in maintaining production records and basic farm data.
• Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a commercial farming environment.
• Reliable, adaptable, and committed to quality, food safety, and workplace standards.
