Food Technologist

Valley Hops Brewing, in Fortitude Valley, is seeking a full time Food Technologist to join their team.
As a Food Technologist, you will play a key role in supporting technology trials, and new product development for the brewing of beer. This hands-on position is ideal for someone with a passion for food science and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Development
- Developing new recipes, formulations, and brewing techniques to improve flavour, stability, and nutritional value.
- Experimenting with yeast strains, fermentation conditions, and ingredient combinations to enhance product quality.

Quality Assurance and Safety
- Designing and implementing quality control procedures across the brewing and packaging process.
- Testing beer for flavour, colour, aroma, alcohol content, bitterness, and other parameters against set standards.
- Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, labelling laws, and production standards.

Process Improvement
- Reviewing brewing processes to optimise efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Advising on preservation, packaging, and storage of beer to maintain product integrity.
- Monitoring shelf-life, microbiological stability, and consistency across production batches.

Technical Leadership and Training
- Providing scientific input into brewing operations, including raw material selection and supplier quality assessment.
- Training brewing staff on hygiene practices, quality monitoring, and safety standards.
- Collaborating with marketing teams on product positioning based on sensory analysis and consumer research.

Qualification and Experience

- Tertiary qualification in food technology or food science
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in product development, preferably within the brewing industry
- Strong Communication and problem-solving skills.
- A positive attitude with a passion for food.
- High attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Salary

This is full time position offering and annualised salary between $76 500 - $78 000.
